Lighting the Way for Mariners Since 1972

The Seafarers’ Center of Beaumont, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, was founded in 1972 by a diverse group of individuals from the maritime and religious communities, and is sponsored in part by the Port of Beaumont. The Center was designed as a non-denominational mission dedicated to offering all seafarers arriving Port of Beaumont and docks along the Sabine-Neches Waterway services and a haven from the isolation of life aboard a merchant vessel.

Hardworking men and women of the maritime industry make huge sacrifices to provide the world with a way of life to which it has become accustomed. Spending many months on board a vessel, away from family and friends, mariners face dangers and challenges unique to their round-the-clock profession. Away from the support of their local communities, the Seafarers’ Center gives mariners a place to feel “at home.” The Center offers a warm welcome to seafarers and military personnel working at The Port of Beaumont.

Our staff and volunteers meet mariners right where they work—aboard cargo ships and vessels that arrive at Port of Beaumont and docks along the Sabine-Neches Waterway.

ABOUT

Serving Mariners From  All Over the World

The center provides personal, practical and spiritual guidance. Services include distribution of donated personal items, shuttle services to places to shop (contributing thousands of tax dollars to our local economy). In addition, mariners are offered a place to worship, enjoy fellowship and free access to the internet. Calling cards are sold at cost to help mariners maintain relationships at home.

Professional staff serve as advocates for seafarers’ who may not have been treated fairly at sea and work.  A board of directors and staff work to achieve the center's goals and objectives with support of the community, local churches and businesses.

SERVING MARINERS & MILITARY PERSONNEL

Our goal is to promote great opportunities for seafarers and military visiting the Beaumont area.  Learn more about our work by getting in touch with our team today. You will enjoy learning how our staff and volunteers assist thousands of mariners each year, offering a hand of friendship and pastoral care. They also provide practical services like; gifts from local churches, personal items, calling cards, and internet services to connect with loved ones at home.

TOUCHING THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS

With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with seafarers' challenges. Working closely with the United States Coast Guard, shipping agencies, and other regulatory arms, the center provides advocacy for all merchant mariners from around the world to ensure that seafarers’ rights and dignity are preserved without regard for interfaith and cultural backgrounds.

YOU CAN HELP

Please consider giving a monetary donation or ask your organization collect toiletries and personal items mariners use at sea. This is an excellent project for church groups, youth groups, schools, civic organizations, businesses and clubs as well as for families and individuals. The goal of the Seafarers’ Center of Beaumont is to meet the needs of the seafarers who visit the ports all along the Sabine-Neches Waterway.
